In exile in the countryside with his family following financial losses, a merchant returns to town in the hope of relaunching his business. On the way back, he gets lost in the forest and finds refuge in a mysterious castle inhabited by the Beast, who makes him his prisoner. Begging for forgiveness, the man asks the Beast to see his family one last time. Back home, he tells of his bad luck and the deal is made with the Beast. Belle, the youngest of his children, offers herself as a prisoner in her father's place. At the castle, she discovers the curse that once transformed a handsome prince into a monstrous beast. Little by little, bonds are forged between Belle and the Beast. Attacked by bandits and mortally wounded, the Beast is saved at the last minute by the love of Belle.
