A true popular success of Quebec cinema in 2003, winner of countless awards at both Jutra and the Sundance festival, La Grande Séduction also achieved the feat of seducing the international market. For his first feature film, on a script by comedian Ken Scott, Jean-François Pouliot couldn't dream of better.

The small village of Ste-Marie-la-Mauderne makes a meager living from fishing and, despite the social harmony that reigns there, aspires to develop its economy thanks to the establishment of a factory. But, without a doctor at the heart of the community, investors refuse to consider the village as a possible destination. Then begins for the inhabitants the great seduction operation aimed at attracting a Montreal doctor among them.

Bringing together some of the most popular Quebec actors (David Boutin, Raymond Bouchard, Clémence Desrochers, Rita Lafontaine, Benoît Brière, etc.), filmed in the charming settings of Harrington Harbor Island, La Grande Séduction is a film which, without being revolutionary, is all the same eminently sympathetic and ready to do good to its spectator. Halfway between the humanist optimism of Capra and the charming poetry of Jeunet, the plot also borrows some accents from Pagnol through its social anchoring. Revealing the ridiculousness of its characters to better make them endearing, this warm film still suffers from a production that is sometimes a little stiff, but quickly makes up for it thanks to its catchy and lively dialogues and its convincing performers. It's hard not to be seduced! – Helen Faradji --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
